How to Enroll at TCCC

Get Started in 9 Easy Steps

Step 1 - Will I be able to get in?

The College operates under an Open Door admission policy, which means we are flexible enough that anyone who wants to improve their education will have the opportunity. Some programs have special admissions requirements, so take a look at our program offerings online or in the General Catalog and Student Handbook available on campus.

Step 2 - How do I apply?

  • Apply online, download an application, or visit one of our campuses.
  • Choose one of TCCC’s many programs of study.
  • Submit your application or complete the downloaded version and mail it or bring it to campus.

Step 3 - What do I need to do to complete the admissions process?

  • Have official transcripts (high school, GED, or other college), and SAT or ACT scores sent to TCCC.
  • Take the College Placement Test and meet with staff to discuss your scores.
  • High school students taking on-campus classes must complete a Concurrent Enrollment Form. High school “Learn and Earn” online students should register with their guidance counselor or designated representative.

Step 4 - Do you offer help with the cost?

  • TCCC offers financial assistance through grants, scholarships and the Federal Work-Study program.
  • Apply for financial aid online for free at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Obtain a FAFSA PIN number http://www.pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/pinindex.jsp
  • Have your FAFSA information sent to TCCC. Our school code is 009430.
  • Correspond promptly with the TCCC financial aid staff if you need help or have questions.

Step 5 - How do I decide what classes to take?

  • Once you have been admitted to TCCC and declared a program of study, you will be assigned an academic advisor.
  • Meet with your assigned academic advisor (see inside) and discuss your program of study and its requirements.
  • Work closely with your advisor to develop a schedule that meets your needs. You can choose traditional on-campus classes, online classes, hybrid classes, or a combination of all three.

Step 6 - How do I register for classes?

  • TCCC holds two registration periods: Early Registration, which takes place near the end of the current semester, and Regular Registration, which is held in the days just before the new semester begins.
  • During Early Registration, make an appointment with your advisor. During Regular Registration, visit your advisor in their office, but because of the increased number of students, realize you may have to wait to see your advisor.
  • Determine what classes to take, but remember classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is best to plan for alternate classes.
  • Obtain your printed Registration Statement, which lists your classes and their locations.

Step 7 - Where and how do I pay for classes?

  • If you are paying your own tuition, you must pay in person at the Business Office.
  • If you have financial aid (scholarships or grants, including Pell), you must take your Registration Statement to the Harper help desk for verification of your award.
  • If you have other sources of funding (out of state waiver, ESC authorization letter, TEACH, etc.), you should go to the Business Office for your balance and payment.

Step 8 - Where and how do I pay for my books?

  • Purchase your books at the TCCC bookstore in the Harper Building on the Main Campus; at the Graham County Center; or online at www.cbamathews.com/triccc.
  • If you are paying for classes yourself, you can purchase books at any time.
  • If you are planning to pay for books using financial aid, you must wait until the Regular Registration period.

Step 9 - What else do I need to do?

  • Pick up a parking decal if you do not have a valid one.
  • Make sure you have a current student ID.
  • If you are a new student, attend the new student orientation to learn more about college services.
  • Attend the first day of class. If you receive financial aid and do not attend the first day, your check may be delayed.
  • If you are taking online classes, plan to participate in the Online Blackboard Orientation session.
  • If you are taking an online class, you should be sure to log on to Blackboard immediately after your class begins.
  • If you decide not to attend a class for which you have registered, please contact Student Services immediately to officially withdraw so that your academic standing and financial aid will not be jeopardized in the future.
