Tri-County Community College (TCCC) is offering an intensive, fast-track continuing education course leading to a state-recognized Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. The course will include both online and traditional training and instruction.

The start of the course will feature a 70-hour online component that will begin April 1, and must be completed prior to May 18. Beginning May 18, the course will meet face-to-face for 11 ten-hour days and will conclude on May 28.

“We are looking forward to offering this ambitious course at Tri-County Community College,” said TCCC Coordinator of Emergency Medical Training Jeff Ledford. “Combining the online component with the rigorous 11-Day Boot Camp will allow our students to receive full EMT training in an accelerated time-frame. ”

Ledford said the students will learn topics related to basic emergency medical care, including preparatory, airway, patient assessment, medical emergencies, trauma, infants and children, and operations.

This course follows guidelines established by the NC Office of EMS. Students must have a high school diploma or its equivalent; and have successfully completed an entrance exam assessing basic reading comprehension skills at a minimum at the tenth grade level. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve North Carolina State or National Registry EMT certification.

“The 11-Day EMT Boot Camp is just another example of the College’s creative commitment to our community,” said TCCC President Dr. Donna Tipton-Rogers. “Often the residents of Cherokee, Clay, and Graham counties have to travel to locations far away for training, credentials, and certifications. We’re taking every effort to increase the accessibility of education by bringing-in outside resources and offering innovative courses such as this.”
