The Tri-County Community College (TCCC) Foundation is going fishing for college scholarships with the help of the Tri-County Bass Club next month. Competition, camaraderie, scholarships, and of course, fishing. Those are just some of the activities that bass anglers will experience during the 6th annual Tri-County Community College (TCCC) Foundation’s Annual Fishing for Scholarships Bass Tournament that will be held in April.
Anglers will be competing for a guaranteed $3,500 in prize money during the April 5, 2014, tournament conducted on Lake Chatuge near Haysville, North Carolina. The annual tournament is coordinated by the Tri-County Bass Club and the Tri-County Community College Foundation.
“This is the sixth year Tri-County Community College has partnered with the Tri-County Bass Club to bring one of the largest fishing tournaments to western North Carolina,” said Dr. Donna Tipton-Rogers, TCCC president.
“We had 57 boats participate in last year’s tournament. As always, it was not only a lot of fun for all involved, but also very successful in funding two $1,000 scholarships for deserving TCCC students.”
Tipton-Rogers said this tournament is held annually on the first Saturday of April and cash prizes are awarded for up to 10 places, and for biggest and smallest fish. In addition, door prizes will also be awarded to participants.
The tournament is open to all persons, both male and female, and the participants will compete in two-person teams using artificial lures only with a limit of five fish per boat.
Largemouth, Smallmouth, Shoal and Spotted Bass will be weighed. The cost is $90 per boat, and after March 20, 2014, it then increases to $100 per boat. Blast off is at 7:00 a.m., or around safe light with a 4:00 p.m. weigh-in.
