Faculty Embracing Technology

In what many would consider a role-reversal, the educators at Tri-County Community College (TCCC) are now the ones in the classroom. They are being trained to use the Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment, more commonly known as Moodle.

Moodle is a very popular open source Virtual Learning Environment. At the time of this writing, Moodle is hosting over 80,000 courses in more than 236 countries. The online courses being taught through TCCC are all powered using Moodle.

Through Moodle, instructors are able to post lectures, assignments, and incorporate discussion boards to create interactive, online courses. Students will be able to complete these courses from any location with an internet connection.

Being skilled in using the latest technological tools allows the instructors at TCCC to provide classes to a larger, more dynamic group of students. Many people who want to further their education also have busy schedules to work around. Between work, family, and other life responsibilities, it can be difficult to find the time to go to school. Courses provided through the Moodle platform allow students with busy schedules to complete the necessary coursework online at their convenience.
