College hosts successful annual golf tourney

TCCC Annual Golf Tourney

Levi Zimmerman, Rick Curtis, and Matt Cable, all of Murphy, took home
the tournament’s first-place gross prize of $1,000.

Nearly sixty players loaded into their golf carts in the crisp early-morning air, eager to begin their round of golf under a clear blue sky during the Tri-County Community College Foundation’s 9th Annual Golf Tournament at The Ridges Country Club in Hayesville on May 20.

“I am extremely excited to see everyone turn out year after year for this event,” said Dr. Donna Tipton-Rogers, president of Tri-County Community College, as she addressed the crowd.

“It’s a great day to have fun, but most importantly, your contributions will be benefitting our students, which is really what this event is all about,” she said.

Two three-man teams were paired together in the scramble, shotgun-start tournament, which also included more than $3,800 in prizes for participants to claim.
“Proceeds from the tournament went to the Student Enrichment Fund, which supports college and community-based events and projects,” said Dotie Stafford-Ortega, chair of the events committee at Tri-County Community College.
The first-place gross prize of $1,000 went to Levi Zimmerman, Matt Cable, and Rick Curtis, all of Murphy. Patrick Meens, Nick Meens, and Matthew Youngblood took home the $1,000 first-place net prize.

Second place gross prize of $500 went to Jeff Weatherly, Ben Kilmer, and Matt Cook. Kevin Dockery, Brooklyn McKeon, and Brett McCoy won the $500 second place net prize.

The $400 third-place gross prize went to Mike Stamper, Terrance Taylor, and Josh Stevenson, while the $400 third place net was awarded to Cory Cox, Parker Lewis, and Peter Beringer.
