College offering nurse aide refresher class

Nurse aide at TCCC

Recent nurse aide graduate Shahadah Lloyd received her certificate of completion from Peggie Cranford, nurse aide instructor for Tri-County Community College, at a pinning ceremony on June 8 at the main campus

Tri-County Community College will offer a nurse aide refresher course beginning June 26 at the Center for Applied Technology in Marble.

“This class is designed for nurse aides who have a NC certification that expired less than 48 months ago, or a nurse aide with a current certification in another state,” said Deborah Raper, coordinator of health occupations training at Tri-County Community College.

According to Raper, this refresher is a review course that covers basic nursing skills, personal care skills, recognition of mental health and social service needs, basic restorative services, resident rights, and care of the cognitively impaired.

The refresher course will run Monday and Wednesday evenings from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

There is no clinical component and students are also prepared to take the State Competency Exam for listing on the NC nurse aide registry.

“Anyone interested in entering the nursing program, but whose nurse aide certification has expired, can enroll in this class to meet the nursing program application deadline,” Raper said.
