Star Party at Tri-County Community College

Tri-County Community College (TCCC) held its first ever Total Lunar Eclipse – Star Party on Sunday, September 28 on the Main Campus in Peachtree. More than 75 faculty, staff, students, and community members were in attendance.

TCCC set-up three telescopes for spectators to use, while many enthusiasts brought their own equipment. The field adjacent from the College’s Fire Training Center was filled with eager onlookers hoping for a break in the sky.

After hours of set-up, waiting, and hoping the sky would clear, the super moon never made its grand appearance, but that did not take away from the overall experience.

“What a wonderful event! Everyone seemed to have a great time, even though the weather didn’t cooperate,” said Dotie Stafford-Ortega, chair of the Events Committee.

“Even though seeing was zero, we had a great time socializing with one another. It was good just sitting and talking,” said Ronnie Whitener, Chemistry Instructor and Dean of Math, Science, and Allied Health.

The College’s Events Committee is continually working to provide new and exciting events to engage students and the communities it serves. If you would like to know more about College events, please call Dotie Stafford-Ortega at (828) 835-4208.
