The early-morning mist settled upon the untouched greenways as seventy five players loaded into their golf carts, eager to begin their round of golf under a clear blue sky at the Tri-County Community College (TCCC) Foundation’s 8th Annual Golf Tournament at The Ridges Country Club in Hayesville on May 14.
“Today you can relax and play a round of golf in this beautiful weather,” said Dr. Donna Tipton-Rogers, president of TCCC, addressing the crowd. “But most importantly, you will be benefitting our students, which is really what this event is all about.”
Two three-man teams were paired together in the scramble, shotgun-start tournament, which also included more than $3,800 in prizes for participants to claim.
“Proceeds from the tournament went to the Student Enrichment Fund, which supports college and community-based events and projects,” said Dotie Stafford-Ortega, chair of the events committee at TCCC.
The first place gross prize of $1,000 went to Matt Cook, Tim Hughes, and Rick Curtis, while Jim Owle, Marty Taylor, and Tommy Bradley took home the $1,000 first place net prize.
Second place gross prize of $500 went to Cort McKeon, Jesse Puccio, and Levi Zimmerman. Larry Owens, Jason Brooks, and Tom Erwin won the $500 second place net prize.
The $400 third place gross prize went to Lumpy Lambert, Terrance Taylor, and Don Roman, while the $400 third place net was awarded to Dave Johnson, Brogdon Wideman and Al Hoo.
Jim Owle also won the men’s longest drive prize, while Mary Hughes took home the women’s longest drive. Chuck West won the putting contest with 6.5 inches.
