In an endeavor to provide students with information regarding promising career opportunities, Tri-County Community College (TCCC) invited students interested in a career in commercial truck driving to attend its Open House/Job Exploration event on Friday, November 20 at the Main Campus in Peachtree.
Representatives from Paschall Truck Lines, Inc. and TMC Transportation were present to discuss employment opportunities with students in attendance. The event also included a state-of-the-art show truck from West Carolina Freightliner for attendees to explore.
Recent graduates from TCCC’s Truck Driver Training program spoke to the crowded room about their success following completion of the program.
“When I am out driving, drivers who have been in this industry for decades ask me how many years experience I have driving commercially,” said David Hughes, a recent graduate of TCCC’s Trucker Driver Training program. “They’re constantly impressed that I’ve only been in this field for four months, not four years.”
“I had never been in the cab of a truck when I started this program in June, but I tell you, if you want to learn to drive a truck, this is the place to be,” Hughes said.
College representatives said the early results of the training program have been very successful.
“It is my understanding that all of the students who have completed the training and successfully passed the CDL test are fully employed and earning substantial income,” said Bo Gray, vice president for college and community initiatives. “Industry employers highly value these graduates.”
