Minority Male Success Initiative – United Promise (TC-UP).


TC-UP is a new program developed to increase graduation and retention rates among minority males attending Tri-County Community College.

Mission Statement

Foster and strengthen the educational, professional, and leadership skills necessary to reach the upmost potential and promise through academic, specialized, and personal development.

Program Description

The Tri-County Community College Minority Male Success Initiative - United Promise is designed to provide students with the necessary skill-sets to obtain success regardless of where they began and take them as far as they can go. All of this will be obtained through involvement in a widely diverse setting of academic, professional, civic, and community involvement. Through the use of regular meetings, hands on activities, College relationships, tutoring, and self-evaluation the program will instill a sense of pride and accomplishment that encompasses the mission of United Promise.

Program Requirements

In order to be eligible for TC-UP you must be enrolled at TCCC and fall under the United States Department of Education guidelines of who is considered a minority male.

By filling out this application and submitting it, you are offering your commitment to improve both as a student and as a male member of your community.

TCCC has established a committee to help identify potential participants and resources. The committee consists of members of administration, faculty, staff, local business leaders, and educators.

Our State Goal

The NCCCS Minority Male Mentoring Program is a student success initiatives currently taking place throughout the 58 Community College System. This program is designed to strengthen minority male student outcomes by encouraging participation and collaboration among student participants and institutional departments.

To help achieve the stated goal, the Minority Male Success Initiative is seeking for colleges to make a three-year commitment to assess and enhance the student success outcomes of minority male students.

The primary reasons for the redesign are to:

* Increase student success;

* Maximize student and campus participation; and

* Increase program effectiveness and efficiency.

The purpose of the Minority Male Success Initiative is to address and increase the progression and completion rates of minority male students. To accomplish this mission, community colleges should:

* Provide integrated and targeted supports and interventions when they are most effective.

* Aid student’s progress through programs that lead to valuable credentials, without unnecessary detours.

* Assist students in making informed decisions which result in understanding the requirements and processes to succeed.
