The Medical Sonography curriculum provides knowledge and clinical skills in the application of high-frequency sound waves to image internal body structures.
Coursework includes physics, cross-sectional anatomy, abdominal, introductory vascular, and obstetrical/gynecological sonography. Competencies are attained in identification of normal anatomy and pathological processes, use of equipment, fetal growth and development, integration of related imaging, and patient interaction skills.
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) has accredited the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS).
Program Mission Statement and Outcomes
In keeping with the mission of Tri-County Community College, the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is committed to engaging students in learning, helping students succeed, and enriching the communities we serve by providing students with a well-rounded education. Our mission is to prepare students to become competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains for the abdominal-extended concentration. This mission is accomplished through:

· Strong local and regional partnerships.
The goal of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is to equip students to be successful diagnostic medical sonographers and obtain employment in the field of sonography through in-depth instruction in sonographic practices, principles and imaging skills. We will accomplish this goal by:
· Preparing students to become clinically competent, entry-level abdominal-extended sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.
· Give students a proficient knowledge of human anatomy and physiology as well as an under-standing of pathological processes
· Instructing students to use critical thinking and professional decision making
· Instructing students in effective written and verbal communication skills
· Preparing students to function as a compassionate and competent member of the healthcare team and represent a commitment to excellence in the field of sonography
