Officials with Tri-County Community College’s public safety training division, in conjunction with local fire departments and emergency services agencies, have announced plans to hold live firefighting exercises in Andrews this Saturday (June 30).
“These exercises will allow our local firefighting personnel an invaluable opportunity to train in hyper-realistic firefighting scenarios,” said Henry Angelopulos, director of public safety training at Tri-County Community College.
According to Angelopulos, the training exercises will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. at 6802 Airport Road in Andrews.
“At the end of the day, we will have culminated with the demolition of three structures by fire,” Angelopulos said.
The public is advised to practice caution, as due to the nature of the training, smoke and flames will be visible at times, in addition to a growing prevalence of smoke in the area throughout the day.
“Our emergency service personnel will also be utilizing the roads in the area surrounding the training site,” Angelopulos said. “The public should expect minor traffic detours and delays.”
