As part of a continuing effort to connect community members to local resources, Tri-County Community College’s (TCCC) Small Business Center (SBC) will host a Farm Services Expo on December 6 at the Center for Applied Technology in Marble.

“The expo is a great way for the community to meet representatives from local farm resources,” said Kathryn Jenkins, director of the SBC. “There are many agencies in Cherokee, Clay, and Graham counties, all of which are available to serve our area farmers.”

The Farm Services Expo is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., and will be free of cost to all who attend, with lunch included.

The morning seminar, led by Dr. Sanjun Gu, a horticulture specialist with NC Agricultural & Technical State University, will cover spring and summer crop planning for seasonal high tunnel greenhouses.

“This is an opportunity for farmers to discover what programs will be available to them in 2017,” Jenkins said. “We’ll have representatives from nearly a dozen agencies, including the Farm Service Agency, National Resources Conservation Service, and the Smoky Mountain High Tunnel Initiative.”

According to Jenkins, there will also be staff from the SBC on-hand at the event to provide information about the services offered through the College, such as business planning and one-on-one confidential counseling.
